Pentax K10D Lens Mount
Pentax K10D camera has “crippled” KAF2 mount. Just like other mounts, the contacts for the lenses, plus the MTF information and the power zoom are quickly transferred from the lenses to the whole body. But there is no mechanically stop down coupler in order to have full compatibility with other, much older Pentax lenses.
The K10D version is normally part of a nice bundle that also contains Pentax’s SMC-DA 18-55mm lens, and this has won them some great reviews from many customers. K10D also has ultrasonic focusing motors by Pentax. Lenses thus equipped support faster and also quieter autofocus in-lens and 2 weather sealed ultrasonic lenses. These sealed lenses have been developed by cooperating with Tokina.
The KA and also the KAF lenses have aperture rings fully compatible if the ring is placed on automatic.
Pentax K mount
This is also called a “PK mount”, and it is used on 35 mm single-lens reflex (SLR). It was developed in 1975, by Pentax and they still use it on 35 mm and also digital SLRs. After they, a lot of other manufacturers have used the technology.
The KAF mount has been the 2nd attempt to make auto-focus to lens much better. And it has been a successful attempt. The technique adds some drive on the KA mount and the body adjusts better when the lens is focusing. In this way the lens is a bit more bulky but people do not mind. Also, they have added many electrical contacts and they carry the information to the camera, much faster. In this case, the information allows the camera to make a better exposure, much faster.
A KAF2 mount differs from a KAF mount because it brings two extra contacts inside of the ring used on power zooming. They are indeed improved features that add quality to the pictures.
