Pentax K10D Features

This model has been announced in 2006, when Photokina 2006 was about to start.

Pentax K10D is the first model of the company that taps into serious-amateur market. It is a big camera, a sturdy one, with enriched features. It has 10 ten megapixel CCD, a high quality processing pipeline, the dust seal and the weather proof, 11-point AF plus unique exposure modes. This model is going head to head with Nikon D200 and Canon EOS 30D.

10 megapixel APS-C CCD
This feature was expected from Pentax and it has been used by Sony in many other cameras.

22 bit Analog to the Digital converter
This feature can give you a big number of gradations, that are great in the shadow areas. But remember you will have 8 bits per channel on the JPEG conversion and 12 bits in RAW. So this feature may be considered not so relevant.

‘PRIME’ Image Processor
Just like Sony and Canon before, Pentax branded their processor. They named it ‘PRIME’, and has support for DDR2 (800 MB/sec) RAM.

Shake Reduction

They have implemented this feature with great success since nobody wants to have their pictures look all shaken. The new camera uses some permanent magnets, four coils and ball bearings on the CCD plate.

Dust Reduction and Removal
Pentax wanted to improve the dust removal process and they did so by applying some ‘fluorine-type coating onto the low-pass filter’. In this way it has reduced the dust sticking and the shaking of the sensor eliminated the dust gathered on the stick pad.

11-point Auto Focus plus 9 cross sensitive
This nice model has 11-point auto focus sensor which on horizontal and vertical levels is very stable offering a great quality.

All in all these are the features of Pentax K10D.
