Pentax K Series

May 2006 was the month when Pentax brought to light the new Digital SRL line to replace the old series. They came up with K100D and K110D to replace the DL2 and DS2. The new models had the new body shake reduction. The K100D camera was the first to have this. The Pentax K10D, is the flagship model of Digital K and has a Sony 10-megapixel CCD sensor, plus weather-sealing construction. This was released on the 14th September 2006.

The K10D has a pentaprism viewfinder replacing the slightly dimmer pentamirror that was placed on the previous models. The camera is fully programmed, has shutter priority mode and aperture mode and also the Sensitivity-priority mode.

Also, the power contacts give you a lot of power zoom. K100D Super was considered a slight upgrade and was released in June 2007. The new improved camera had a SR system, the dust removal system, plus some great power contacts for the SDM lenses. On the downside, there is no power zoom function like in the K10D.

Pentax has released the K20D and also the K200D, replacing K10D and K100D.

K20D has one Samsung 14.6 megapixel CMOS APS-C sensor and the special 21 frame/s burst mode. Not to mention the LCD display and the increased sensitivity. Also, even with all these features, the camera is still slim.

On the 20th of May 2009, Pentax presented the K-7 that has a lot of features and brings back a nice design. It has a full metal body, pentaprism that covers 100% of the frame, faster shutter mechanism, 720p video capture and automatic correction system. Plus, it has lateral chromatic aberration and the multi-zones metering system. It has been in stores, with all its great features, in July 2009 and you can still buy it now if you want to.
